Birthday Yak Trip

Dad put together a little mini tourney this weekend to celebrate my birthday. Kayaks or Canoes only, most overall inches of legal trout and/or red wins the day. We had 6 participants, all had a different strategy in mind....."Shotgun" start at 0700 and we were off!

We all found our hunting grounds and started casting, I was first on the board with a 20.5" red on the Exude.

The Old Man was banking on a couple legal trout to fill out his scorecard, but only the youngins were eating. He did manage to bury a treble into his thumb while unhooking an unruly teenage trout, and after some expert surgery by our Master Electrician (piloting the Heritage Redfish), Dad was back to casting!

The engineer was busy poling his W.S. Tarpon 130 and dragging cut bait...but to no avail.

The Canoers were having some sucess chasing a decent school of slot sized reds, and scored an 18.5"er on an Exude. They would have probably won the day if Kirk had his hearing aid turned up enough to hear the reds! The horn sounded at 1030 and we sea weary vagabonds returned to the parking lot to swap stories, determine the winner and feast on brats, chips, and refreshments. The fish must have been leery from all the weekend traffic because I took the prize with my single 20.5" fish, Tim took second with his 18.5" red (destined for a good blackening). A great time was had by all, and thank you for making this birthday a memorable one!
