Headed to south Amelia Island today. Hit the flood tide. The first picture is of a creek mouth 2 days ago right around low tide. 4 birds, 3 species, 10 feet across. In my witty mode, I termed it "Friends In Low Places." The second and third pictures show the flooded grasses. The first and third pictures are in the same spot, at opposite tides. Talk about major tidal movement... One of the coolest parts about fishing the grasses is all the wildlife clinging to the tops of the grass. Saw lots of crabs. Also saw a dolphin cruising in a couple of feet of water. Sounded like a truck releasing his brakes every couple of seconds. Managed to find one red, 24" official measurement. I have caught reds out of my kayak in Va, and reds in FL on boats, but that was my first Florida caught yak red. Swam off to fight another day. |

I prefer all that area to the north of the Nassau River (Horsehead, Lanceford and up to Tiger), to the areas south of JAX,...especially this time of year. Great day and super photo examples.

I waded a couple of times. Major lesson #1 learned "when wading in grass, do not let it go up your shorts and poke you in the wahoos." And after I caught that red, I hopped out and waded in a sandy bottomed creek. You can see in the pic there is about 15 yards between the edge of the grass and the bank, waded it for about 30 minutes before it was almost dry. Saw some shadows moving but without my sunglasses, it was tough to tell what it was.
