Look at the waterline with two guys in the boat, the 90 2 stroke is 261, the 115 Yam is 358, thats 97 more pounds. I don't think the transom will go down half as far as this.

Something to compare, I weigh 180 and Hal is 240, thats a 60 pound difference.

George, have you sandbagged to the weight of a 115hp motor , I think the E-TEC 115HO is 390lbs and the Opti 115/125 is 375lbs, I would be very interested in this data, hope your well btw.

Hi Mark,

We did not sand bag, but maybe this could help you. In this pic of the skiff it has the 249 lb. Yama the guide poling I am told is close to 300 and the angler 210, the skiff only had 5 gallons of gas in it, it would have been easier to pole if it had more fuel to make it level. I would say the boat is drafting 8 to 9 inches, closer to 9 in the photo. If the boat had 15 or more gallons it would be at 8.

The guide needs to take into consideration the boat needs to have a level bottom to get the best results for handling. You can put what ever engine you want if you compensate for the weight up forward, but your draft will change with extra weight. Once you have gone with the heavier motor and the extra fuel forward it will become harder to pole.

There is always a trade off, it is up to you to make the decision, do you need speed or draft and ease to pole.

But thats the advantage of a 400 pound boat, you will still be able to get better results over all other 18s.

George

Thanks George.

I am 175 lbs , and will fish either on my own, or with my GF lounging around ( as ballast if need be ) , not that fussed on speed per say, but better fuel consumption for a higher cruise speed would be nice.
Draft not a major issue, however a real world 8/9 inches would be great, if the fish are any shallower than that , I will send them a postcard.
