Silver Kings dont look that good! Even if it was based one another skiff, which I dont know, but do highly doubt, there are signifigant changes in the hull, which make it much different, which is visible even by looking at just pictures. Last edited by Capt Billy Rotne; 02-17-2008 at 09:16 AM. |

Just for reference,a splash would be the running surface,un-like some of the micro skiffs that have been splashed as a total package with slight modifacations to change their apperance. This approach is not new, HB=Fibercraft, Maverick, Sterling,Mitzi = Dolphin , each used just the bottom of an existing hull and changed the rest of the skiff to meet their needs. Nothing wrong with it,a truely new hull design would be cost prohibitive in these times, and would probally not get a good response. Would you throw down $40K + for a flats skiff that was un proven, and maybe the hull looked like a tri-hull plane wing or something? The bottom of this skiff "could" resemable the bottom of the SK 18 Grand master, which was one hell of a big water boat, the 16's and after Johnny Morris, not so much. but the 18 kicked ***.

Hi , Well, to throw in my 2 cents here...alot of boats use the hulls from other boats...SK16 was actually an old 17 Mako. Ive had both the 16 and 18 SK's from the good old days when Mark Scott built them. At the time they were very very good hulls, but today, they are dated. There are alot of other boats out there i would pick over each today. The 16, while great for Tarpon, was an annoyingly noisey hull to pole shallow, we called her old slappy, and the 18 was a workout to pole. i loved them both , but progress in hull designs have left the famous Silverking in the past. And from what i see of the bottom, there is no resemblence in this new HB Boca to either. Actually looks to me like a Marquesa split down the center, widened a bit, less deadrise, and then shaved 5 inches or so off the freeboard Looking forward to seeing this new boat! The boat show pics look nice, though id rather have a more traditional tower over the back.

Saw this boat today at the ramp in Weeki Wachee, hitched to Tommy Locke's truck. I liked it better than I thought I would from the pictures--the lines looked choppy to me in the pictures I've seen, but it's not distracting in person. It's got deadrise at the transom, but it's got a bit of a pad, too. Locke said it will air out on the pad and is claiming 55+ with an old carbed Merc 90. The published poling draft number are bogus, I suspect. It's got too much deadrise to fit into 6". |
