| 17.8 prop suggestions
Just curious what everyone was using on their 17.8s with the merc 60 2 stokes. My buddy in Islamorada recommended the powertech 4 blade with a 13" pitch. I am ready to pull the trigger on a new one and I wanted to see what other options were around.

I'm running a 3 blade stainless vengeance (merc) on my 60 2 stroke in a 15 pitch. This runs the motor about 5400rpm - on a merc analog guage - accuracy? The hole shot is average, but I get over 41mph alone and 38mph with 2 guys and gear in an 18 waterman center console - GPS. I have thought about dropping to a 13p 4 blade for hole shot, but why fix if it aint broke? Plus I like the look on other guys faces when I keep up with or pass them with their 90hp an mine weighs about 100lbs less.

I have a 90hp merc, I run a 14p. I am ready for a new prop though and I think I am going to go with the 15p. All the 17.8's I have been in with merc 60's all had 15p props on them and ran very nice. Quote:

My Silver King turns a 4 blade 19 Turbo @ 5700 trimmed out. That boat likely weighs close to double the HB. Seems like a a 14 or 15 would wind out a lot. jb |

I am winding out now because my prop is basically done for, but with a new prop I run at about 5500-5700. I never though about going with a bigger prop. I love the wholeshot/top end combo I get out of the 14. I know a guy who run a prop shop and would let me take a couple to try. I may do this as I need a new prop anyway just to see what I could get with a higher pitch prop. |
