hells bay sucks and the whiprays are wet, ride like crap and draft 18 inches and you probably used bait to murder that poor endangered tarpon.

Bait's not illegal or unethical . Mis-handling a protected species is .

I give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe it's an older pic. Nice pics, welcome.

I know in some the local tournaments, in order to be able to legally measure a tarpon, they must possess it, to possess it you must have a tag...imo that is at least some level of protection.

I've stopped pulling any boatside poons in the skiff after have done it a few times and seeing how it hurts them more than a release boatside. This is the only fish I target from May thru August. The Sarasota Tarpon Tourney, the oldest on the west coast going back to 1930, is an all release two month contest. They instituted a new rule two years ago that states if you bring any landed poon in the boat it is an automatic disqualification. I'm not talking about a fish that may be a new IGFA record catch, but the everyday poons. In the shallows we've taken some nice pics by getting in the water and supporting the fish to get the shot. Just make sure someone is on the poling platform looking out for jaws. Had a hammerhead longer than my old 16 ft superskiff sneak up behind the boat using it for camoflage, in 6-7 foot of water while I was poling and my buddy was casting to a string of fish coming from the 11 o'clock position. Sneaky bastards.

Cool boat, nice fish. Did the skiff have a leather deck?

As far as the poon goes, anyone who has pulled a couple into their boat more than likely doesnt want to do it again. The make a huge mess and break all kinds of crap. Not something you want in your boat, regardless of the law.
