Sweet a good friend of mine have a whip with the leather deck, so nice on your feet! I have never personally found it to be slippery.

My first whip was a leather deck and I never had a problem, my current 17.8 of course has sanded non skid. No problems with it, other than I worry a little more about fly line getting nicked. But I would pick the leather over the sand.

Very smart to finish that education first. That's something that cannot be taken away. Access to Florida bay may not be a sure thing.
