I have a 40 Merc on my Whipray with remote steering. I would think that a used 30 Yamaha would be a good fit for the boat? Anyone run one of these (non-tiller) on a Whipray? My research says they weigh 60 plus pounds lighter. Hole shot may be slightly jeopardized, top end too, but over all cruise should be pretty good??? Just pondering and looking for some insight. I do not have play money now to really even mess with the idea. Finding a 15" shaft seems to be difficult. Thanks. |

My original whip came with a tiller, 25 merc 4 stroke. It did 26 mph gps. After conversion to a remote, 40 hp, 2 stroke it got 34. Anyway the 30 should be okay, that was the original plan for that boat anyway. jb |

Yeah, the 15" shaft is the big problems with options. I repowered my 16 HB from a merc 40 to a tohatsu 50. It weighs about the same. I get 38mph when the stars are aligned. I've often thought about going with a 25 and adding a jackplate. pros and cons to each. |
