| Custom Knife Holder
Whether on a cooler lid or transom cutting board, it is so nice to have your knife stored safely right where your working. You can screw down a cutting board to the top of your bait cooler for a handy bait prep area. Our cutting board is on the underside of the "kill box" lids. The knife holder is pretty simple, though it is totally custom. A piece of half inch PVC board or starboard cut into a long rectangle about 3 inches wide. Trace the blade of the knife and carve it out a little at a time with a rotary file or grinder. Taper the groove so that there is tension on the knife as it slides in. The groove will be deeper towards the handle end. Repeatedly flip the holder over and test the space for the knife. Grind a little at a time. You want some tension on the knife to make it stay in place. File some drain or flushing holes in the end and the side so that scales and chunks can be blasted out with a hose. Pre drill holes for screws as the materials will want to split. A little work, but well worth the effort. Last edited by Capt. Scott Goodwin; 03-02-2007 at 06:59 PM. |
