Titusville with Nate Lemmon

11.20.2008

Today after a day's rest I was ready to head out on the water again. 5am I am on the road heading over the Titusville to fish with friend Captain Nathaniel Lemmon. Nate has put me on my largest redfish ever and today were going after my largest trout ever. My largest trout was 26" and he said that was good for Tampa but just OK for Titusville.

We got there with some very low winds at 5mph and sunny skies. The water temperature however was a frigid 50 degrees. The bite was tough at 1st with only a couple small reds. Then we ran into a pod of monster trout. I've never seen trout this big 28-30"+ scattering around. They wouldn't eat however. When it comes to spooky I have to say big trout are as bad as a big bonefish!

We had no problems catching all the reds we wanted. The reds were eating well today, cast after cast they would eat 75% of the time. For a while there the red fish were a pain(too much noise during the fight) as we were trying not to spook the big trout. We stopped casting to the redfish at about 20 fish so we could be more stealthy for a big trout. We manage a couple nice trout at about 4-4.5 lbs but the big girls eluded us today. We saw lots of big trout but they were super cautions! I'll have to go back and try to get one of those monsters before they leave. Thanks Nate!

Today the bite was excellent and so was the lighting. I got some great grip and grin shots. Since there was only Nate and I on the boat(ECC Lostman) it was tough getting action shots.
