Drakes 1st keeper cobia

Took my stepson out for an end of the year fishing trip. Fished a few miles out of Port Canaveral hoping to come across some tripletail or cobia. Well luck was on our side with the cobes. We spotted the first one (38") about an hour into our trip. He refused a cobia jig, a dead sardine, and a dead mullet, but never left. Finally I grabbed a lightweight rod that had a live shrimp and the cobia darted for it. I then handed the rod over to my stepson and let him battle it to the end. 1 cobe in the box. After a rather long boat ride, and some of the best bonding time ever spent with my kid, we came across cobia #2. This one was a little larger and apparently a little hungrier. He went for the cobe jig first cast. Again I handed the rod over to Drake. He fought it for a few minutes before turning it back over to me. I fought it up to the side of the boat and handed him the rod once again so I could gaff the fish. Granted, he did not cast to, hook, fight, and land all by himself, but his effort, excitement, and passion for fishing and being on the water has earned him atleast one, if not both, of these cobia to be called his own. Congrats Drake. I'm glad I was there with you, and I cannot wait to fish with you again.
