Airline shuts down, ends Daytona-to-Bahamas flights
By BOB KOSLOW
STAFF WRITER

DAYTONA BEACH — Another airline has suspended scheduled commercial flights out of Daytona Beach International Airport.

Vintage Props & Jets, based in New Smyrna Beach, announced Friday it has ceased operations and cancelled its twice-a-day flights between Daytona Beach and the Bahamas. The airline has served the Bahamas from Daytona Beach since 1999 and from other Florida cities for 16 years. It also cancelled Saturday flights from Jacksonville to Marsh Harbour, Bahamas, with a stop in Daytona Beach.

Higher fuel and operating costs are to blame, according to information posted on the company Web site, Vintage Props & Jets, Inc.. Persons holding reservations will be mailed travel vouchers. Names and contact information of possible substitute carriers also are posted.

The company was working with a potential buyer last week, but the deal fell through late Friday. Officials may file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and reorganize to resume operation, company president Tom Crevasse wrote online.

AirTran Airways ceased operations in Daytona Beach International Airport in May and Continental Airlines has informed airport officials that it will stop its flights here on Sept.2.

-------------

Dear Vintage Traveler,
This message is the hardest that I have ever written. It comes with a very sad and heavy heart. At the end

of the day Friday July 18, 2008 Vintage will temporarily cease operations while filing chapter 11

bankruptcy. For a couple weeks we have been working with a promising investor/buyer and last nightabout

10:30 PM the talks stalled, that left us with not many options. I have personally exhausted Linda and my

checking and savings account and have mortgaged my house and property. I do apologize for this terrible

experience and I am aware that this will ruin the vacation for many.

I am truly sorry that we could not do better.
Regretfully,
Tom Crevasse – President
Vintage Props & Jets, Inc.

Aviation is an expensive endeavor.

Too bad. Never had a chance to use them but they sure were convenient out of NSB.

When we moved here Daytona Beach had a quaint but busy busy little airport. Then they had to build that anywhere USA type airport and their increased fees have driven off several airlines.

Partner in my firm flew over last Thursday on Vintage to his boat in Marsh Harbour. He was supposed to fly out on Sunday.

Vintage gave him no notice that they were canceling flights and filing bankruptcy on Friday, and basically left him stranded (I can think of worse places to be "stranded"...). His group got 3 of 4 remaining seats on a Continental flight into West Palm and had to drive back...
