Surf in Ghana

Friday the swell here was booming. By the afternoon it was low tide and the big outside sets were breaking at about 15 feet. They were not makeable. Sections of 50, 100, 200ft were all just breaking at once. Neat to watch but not rideable. At night, it got even bigger because you could hear rumbling up in my room. Surfed Saturday and the sets were still 10-12 feet and the mid break was a foot overhead. Surfed this morning and this afternoon and the sets were still in the 8 foot range. I talked to a diver and that does a lot of work and knows the local waters fairly well. He says all the sharks are way out and not to really worry about them. It is still spooky sitting 200 yards off the beach by yourself in the middle of nowhere.

Awesome pics . Big waves by yourself is something everyone dreams of but hates it once you get outside . Be careful out there , my brother .

I love those pictures RJ. That must have been a sight to behold, standing on a beach all alone looking out at those waves. You've been there for 3-4 months now, how often is the surf good, bad, big, waist high, etc?

rj, that's incredible, thanks for the surf report and pics from africa.

i imagine surf like that and an empty line up might be a little creepy at times.

like phil said, how often is the surf that good?

Thanks for those. I've been dreaming about big waves for the past two nights. Not many waves here in Illinois after moving from FL. Sure your pics will have me dropping in on a nice one tonight in another great wave dream.

This was the first time I have seen it this big. Normally it is chest to head high. The thing is that these waves in the photo were not rideable. The photo's just made them look good. It is a beach break so it can only handle it to a certain size and still be rideable. These were dumping all the way down the line. I watched them for hours and not one of them was makeable.
