| Tricolor Heron ![]() the other evening volfish and i watched what we thought was a juv. reddish egret scare up dinner. we questioned the difference in the birds appearance. come to find out it was a tri color heron which closely resembles the looks and actions of a reddish egret. ![]() Egretta Tricolor ref- field guide to birds of north america |

| ![]() i know swaying your vote may be hard...plus both of us are relying on our mental video of the event. please look at the above provided refs. when we watched subject we both said it didn't look like a reddish egret. the point of reference on the bird that we both said would help us discover identification was the under half was white. in all of my searches i have not been able to find a reddish egret in juvenile or adult form with similar markings. all reference materials i have found on the tricolor have the prominent white under wings moving into legs. the other compelling factor for me was the tricolor herons have similar hunting patterns as the reddish egret. which at the time is why we figured it had to be a juv. egret. my vote is still for tricolor egret. |
